Association News

“A well-respected scientist and a wonderfully gifted outreach specialist” have joined the Soap and Detergent Association (SDA), the Washington- based trade association for the North American cleaning products industry, according to Brian Sansoni, vice president of communication and education.

Francis H. Kruszewski, Ph.D., is SDA’s new director of human health and safety. He is charged with addressing human safety, toxicology and public health issues relating to cleaning products.

“His background as a toxicologist will serve him well,” says Sansoni. “His knowledge helps ensure SDA’s positions are scientifically sound and defensible.”

Nancy L. Bock joins as director of consumer affairs. Bock will develop educational programs focusing on the industry’s environmental, health and safety issues.

“She spent over a dozen years as a cooperative service extension agent,” says Sansoni. “She knows that community of educators very well, which is important for SDA, because they help convey information on product safety and use to consumers across the United States.”

IICRC Sets Goals to Strengthen the Industry
The Institute for Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), Vancouver, Wash., recently announced its goals for 2001. In an effort to increase communication with registrants and keep the industry informed, the IICRC plans to create a discussion board on its website.

Additional goals include expanding advanced training categories and building stronger relationships with industry associations.

ISSA Invites Membership to Attend Annual Forum
ISSA’s annual Legislative and Regulatory Educational Forum is scheduled for March 29-30 in Washington. The program provides ISSA-member companies with the latest information on topics of specific concern to the cleaning products industry.

A variety of “hot” topics will be featured the first day, including: OSHA’s Final Ergonomics Standard; rigid plastic container regulations update; DOT Hazmat regulations; and the legal status of EPA pesticide registration notices.

The second day’s schedule focuses on using food safety regulations to enhance sales and includes a food safety regulation overview, principles/comparisons of HACCP, sanitation requirements and operating procedures, and NSF nonfood compounds program.
