I think it can be easy to overlook jan/san distributors when examining a sustainable supply chain. For example, building occupants appreciate working in LEED-certified buildings. In-house service providers and building service contractors offer to clean facilities with green products. And manufacturers not only make the sustainable products, but they do it in an environmentally responsible way. So, where do distributors come in?

From recycling programs to driving hybrid trucks, there are a variety of means for jan/san distributors to contribute to an eco-friendly industry. Earlier this year I attended a forum on sustainability and met a handful of these green distributors. In this month’s cover story, Deputy Editor Nick Bragg shares their and other distributors’ green stories.

For some, incorporating green practices into their operations because “it’s the right thing to do” is enough justification. But for others, a little more incentive (like the other kind of green) is needed. Fortunately for them, as Bragg reports, becoming a green distributor can also be a profitable endeavor.

This month on our Web site, www.cleanlink.com, we introduced Management Minute, a new daily podcast on the business of cleaning. These short audio clips delivered by the CleanLink editors will cover topics important to jan/san distributors including sales, HR, technology and more.
