ASSOCIATION NEWS

ISSA/INTERCLEAN® USA 2006 is just around the corner. From October 4-7, the Windy City will host the cleaning industry’s largest convention — more than 16,000 distributors, manufacturers, manufacturer’s reps and facility service providers from around the world will fill the city’s famed McCormick Place for an action-packed, four-day experience.

Visitors will peruse over 700 exhibits showcasing the newest and most effective services and products on the market. This year, ISSA/INTERCLEAN is welcoming attendees from DistriPakUSA, a trade show also held in McCormick Place, tailored to the packaging materials and systems marketplace.

Distributors and visitors to the ISSA show can take advantage of the expanded trade show floor with additional exhibits courtesy of DistriPakUSA. One of the show floor’s most popular attractions, the “ISSA Innovation Revue,” gives attendees an opportunity to vote on the industry’s most inventive products.

There are numerous special events and workshops. Speakers from around the country will offer advice on an extensive topic list. Groups such as The Association of Residential Cleaning Professionals (ARCP) and The International Executive Housekeeper’s Association (IEHA) will present programs ranging from certification workshops to methods for honing your sales skills.

Heading up the speaker lineup is keynote speaker Rudy Giuliani. For 30 years, Giuliani crafted his managerial skills through public service. Today, Giuliani is not only a bestselling author, but he is one of the nation’s most celebrated leaders. Join him as he presents “Principles of Leadership” — a rare opportunity to discover what it means to be a leader.

In addition to the exhibit and program schedule, ISSA/INTERCLEAN is offering visitors a way to take a break and unwind. The Blues Brothers will make an appearance during “happy hour” on Friday, October 6, from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. and are sure to shake things up with their unique floor show. A sports lounge and free massages offer a welcome departure from the typical trade show experience.

ISSA/INTERCLEAN 2006 is sure to keep the industry talking and the city of Chicago electrified.

ISSA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have established a formal alliance to help members of the cleaning industry learn how to improve the health and safety of their employees.

ISSA is inviting industry members to become a “Partner in Safety and Health” by contributing information that would be useful to the ISSA/OSHA Alliance.

The Canadian Sanitation Supply Association has named its 2006 scholarship winners. They are: Nikki Ryan, Bryan Lemenchick, Hayley Dilazzaro, Kristina Lummerding-Driedger, Scott Sinclair, Yayi Huang, Reed Siemieniuk and Michela Fiorido.

According to an ISSA press release, John Garfinkel, executive director of ISSA, is quashing rumors that the ISSA/INTERCLEAN® trade show will never return to Las Vegas, noting that he heard this rumor as early as last year’s trade show in Las Vegas.

Garfinkel does not know how the rumor started, but said ISSA is working toward holding the show in Las Vegas more often in the future than it has in the past.
Las Vegas is the top site for trade shows in the United States, followed by Chicago, Orlando, New York and Atlanta.

While ISSA/INTERCLEAN falls within the top 100 largest trade shows in America, it does not post among the highest attendances — a measure which hosting complexes weigh heavily.

ISSA typically utilizes 600,000 square feet of floor space and draws between 16,000 and 17,000 people. To become a “prime customer,” for the Las Vegas Convention Center, the show would have to draw closer to 30,000 visitors. Add scheduling issues to the mix, and securing the Las Vegas venue becomes even more difficult.
