The Sanitary Supply Wholesalers Association (SSWA) will hold its 2001 executive conference in Sedona, Ariz., from June 18-20, 2001. The program focuses on the themes of globalization and technology to help manufacturers and distributors learn to compete in the current international digital economy and features educational presentations, discussions and person-to-person conferences.

Marks New DREF Fellow
The Distribution Research and Education Foundation (DREF), Washington, recently named J. Michael Marks, managing partner at Indian River Consulting Group, Melbourne, Fla., as DREF Fellow.

Marks is the second person designated by the research arm of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), Washington. He'll serve a four-year term working to develop new research studies for the wholesale distribution industry.

NJSSA’s New Board to
Pursue Aggressive Agenda
New Jersey Sanitary Supply Association (NJSSA) has elected a new board with a full agenda set for the upcoming year.

Among those included on the board are Jon Scoles, Scoles Floorshine Industries, Farmingdale, N.J., who was appointed president, and Hank Josephs, Spruce Industries, Garwood, N.J., who was elected as vice president. Henry Levenstein, Supply King, Neptune City, N.J., is immediate past president and Barbara Casse-Bender, BCB Janitorial Supply Co., Inc., Hackensack, N.J., is executive director.

Projected activities include hiring a public relations firm, publishing a biannual newsletter, further developing its website, planning joint association meetings, setting up a scholarship fund and beginning work on its Supply Line 2002 show.

A.W. Mendenhall Co., Inc., Elk Grove Village, Ill., presented industry-performance awards at its annual sales meeting. Mendenhall presented two vendor of the year awards for 2000. Representatives Jackie Pike of Reckitt Benckiser, Wayne, N.J., a manufacturer of cleaning products, and Nick Ostojic of Sweetheart, Owings Mills, Md., a manufacturer of single-use disposable food and beverage products, were the recipients of the awards. Mike Lesser, vice president of key accounts, received the Cy Wolken salesman of the year award.

Brame Specialty Co., Durham, N.C., employees, were the winners of a contest sponsored by Continental Mfg., Kutol Products, IFC, Midlab, Americo and Crown Mat through their representatives, Professional Sales and Marketing Associates, Charlotte, N.C. They were treated to a night on the town, a tailgate party and a Carolina Panthers – Atlanta Falcons game.

Tokyo Building Maintenance Association (TBMA), Tokyo, part of the Japan Building Maintenance Organization, toured TEC Products Co., a cleaning and paint supplier headquartered in Carteret, N.J. David Holtzman, president of TEC Products, teamed up with Ronald Wright, president and CEO of WrightCo. Environmental Solutions Inc., Uniondale, N.J., to host the delegation.

Clean Quest Products, Concord, Calif., has announced its new location: 901 Commercial St., San Jose, Calif. Clean Quest features products and equipment by Prochem, Chemspec, Pros Choice, Cleanco, Esteam, Steam Genie and more.

Don Aslett’s Cleaning Center celebrates the grand opening of its fourth location in Boise, Idaho. Providing professional cleaning tools and solutions for professional cleaners, maid services and residential cleaners, it now has three locations in Idaho and one in Utah.

Golden Star Inc., Kansas City, Mo., a manufacturer of mops and matting products, has received the Ernst & Young 2000 manufacturing entrepreneur of the year award for western Missouri and Kansas.

TEC Products Co., Inc., Carteret, N.J., presented its millennium year vendor of the year award to Lenore Yash of Reckitt Benckiser, Wayne, N.J. In turn, Reckitt Benckiser awarded David Holtzman, president of TEC Products, its re-distributor of the year for outstanding sales and growth for 2000.

Kaivac Inc.’s, Hamilton, Ohio, “no-touch” system has been validated by the U.S. patent office. The system was developed as a solution to a common building maintenance complaint — dirty restrooms. It combines an indoor pressure washer, chemical injection and wet vacuum technologies all on a single platform.

OMNOVA Solutions, Fairlawn, Ohio, announced that Bob Gower, chief executive officer and president of Carbon Nanotechnologies Inc., Houston, Diane McGarry, director of OMNOVA Solutions since 1999, and Steven Percy, director of OMNOVA since 1999, have been elected to three-year terms on its board of directors.

The 3M Company, St. Paul, Minn., recently named Pro-Link distributor, Savoie Supply, Minneapolis, as a recipient of the 3M supplier award for achievement and service.


Players

American Forms, Plano, Texas, an affiliate of American Tissue, has promoted Rick Craft to vice president sales — sheeted product, to lead its sales expansion of value-added products through the American forms division. Craft has more than 28 years of experience in the forms business and prior to his promotion served as vice president of regional sales for the company.

Waxie Sanitary Supply, headquartered in San Diego, Calif., has promoted two current general managers to vice president positions: Lou Richards, general manager of the Las Vegas division and Chris Bohrisch, general manager of the San Diego division.

Pioneer Eclipse Corp., a manufacturer of floor care equipment and products, has named Paul Offutt as Eastern region manager. Offutt has nine years of sales experience in the jan/san industry.

NSS Enterprises Inc., Toledo, Ohio, has appointed Mike Savidge to the new position of manager of technical services and has appointed Kevin Morey as vice president of product development.

Pat Nuding, formerly production supervisor, has been promoted to plant manager of Tuway American Group, at its Rockford, Ohio, facility. Her duties include overseeing production, labor relations and staffing of the manufacturing operations. Grover Nuding, maintenance manager, has been appointed operations engineer. He will be responsible for equipment and facility maintenance, raw material sourcing and procurement supervision.

Phillip Consolino has been appointed president of SouthEast Link, Atlanta. Phil has more than 30 years of experience in the janitorial supply and equipment service industries.

IPL Products Ltd., headquartered in St.-Damien, Quebec, a plastic pail and consumer packaging manufacturer, has appointed Jason Savage as new sales representative responsible for sales in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.


Obituary

A founding member of Minuteman International’s board of directors, Dr. Tyll Necker, 71, recently passed away. Necker was a director since June 1980. Necker was also a founder and for the past 20 years had been the CEO of Hako-Werke International GmbH, a Bad Oldesloe, Germany-based manufacturer of power sweepers, scrubber-dryers and outdoor cleaning machines. Hako-Werke holds nearly 70 percent of Minuteman’s outstanding common stock. Minuteman International is located in Addison, Ill.
