WAXIE Sanitary Supply’s Northern California Division was honored with a certificate of appreciation by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) for contributions made to SMUD’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum project.

A Platinum Award Celebration was held on July 24, 2007 to honor and celebrate those who were instrumental in contributing to this achievement. Accepting the award on behalf of WAXIE were team members Cindy LaCasse, Dan Green and John Bielenberg.

The SMUD Customer Service Center was presented with a LEED® Platinum plaque by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and five vendors, including WAXIE, were also recognized for the significant contributions that were made to help the facility become the first building in the country owned by a utility company and only the fifth building in California to earn the rating of LEED® Platinum for Existing Buildings. The platinum level for LEED® for Existing Buildings is the highest of four levels of excellence in sustainable operations and maintenance recognized by the USGBC.

WAXIE’s Green Partner Support™ Program helped the project earn points in the areas of Green Cleaning and Sustainable Cleaning Products and Materials. These green cleaning products and processes from WAXIE were recognized for their contributions to improved indoor environmental quality for occupants and visitors of the facility, as well as for their contributions to reduced environmental impacts.

Shideler To Retire From ProTeam
Larry Shideler will retire from active management of ProTeam Inc., Boise, Id.

Shideler founded ProTeam in 1987 and was instrumental in the development of the commercial backpack vacuum. After launching the industry’s first commercial backpack vacuum Shideler worked and developed Team Cleaning® and Cleaning For Health®.

Due to his success, Shideler has been recognized for his leadership and innovation by winning the 2007 Pinnacle Award from the OS1 Users Symposium, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the cleaning industry. He was also named Idaho Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Business Association.

Shideler will continue to serve on the Board of Directors for ProTeam.



ASSOCIATION NEWS
ISSA, Lincolnwood Ill., announced the 2008 foundation board of directors. The new board assumed its duties at the ISSA general meeting on October 26, 2007.

Robert Stahurski, of NYCO Products Co., Countryside, Ill., was named Ex Officio as ISSA VP.

The association also announced three changes that were approved by majority of voting members to the association’s bylaws at ISSA/INTERCLEAN® North America:

• ISSA members may now vote electronically for board elections and bylaw amendments.

• Facility service provider member companies may now vote in association elections for officers to serve on the ISSA Board of Directors.

• Members voted to create a building service contractor (BSC) position on the board of directors to be elected in the future by BSC members.



OBITUARY
Two Industry Members Pass

Steven C. Kletjian
, former chairman and CEO of Unicco Service Co., Aburndale, Mass., died November 8. He was also a trustee of Unicco Service Co., and CEO of Unicco Facility Services Canada Co.

Thomas M. “Tom” Roufs died on October 3 at the age of 66. Roufs was a sales representative for over 17 years with Sunburst Chemicals Inc., of Bloomington, Minn.



COMPANY NOTES
Spartan Chemical Co., Inc. Maumee, Ohio recently completed a 29,000 square foot expansion to its world headquarters.
The company expanded its Customer Service Department, Good Manufacturing Practices Area, Receiving and Production Areas.
The company has also changed the name of SoyStrong to Biorenewables®. The change will take place as inventories of the two products are depleted.

Rubbermaid Commercial Products, Winchester, Va., won the Editor’s Choice Award in the luxury category for the deluxe paneled cart at the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show.
The company also received the Vendor of the Year Award by Saalfeld Redistribution of Loveland, Ohio.

Clark National Inc., Elk Grove Village, Ill., celebrated its 95th anniversary as an independent wholesaler. Clark was founded in 1912 as a paper specialist with eight distribution centers throughout the Midwest.

Noury Supply, Inc., Manchester, N.H., has been appointed as a Triple S (SSS) Member-Dealer. Noury Supply has the rights to market the complete line of the SSS brand cleaning products and systems in the Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts markets.

SCA, the global parent of SCA Tissue North America, has been ranked as the second most environmentally friendly company in the world.
The ranking was conducted by The Independent, a British newspaper, in conjunction with Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRIS).
The company’s Menasha, Wis., paper mill earned an Energy Efficiency Recognition Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for their participation in the 2006 Save Energy Now Program.
The mill also received the 2007 Focus on Energy Award for excellence in energy efficiency recognition and commitment to energy savings, awareness and results.
The company plans to start working on a new paper machine this spring at its Barton, Ala., plant that will add 30 positions to the employee roll and enhance the company’s strategic capabilities.

Nexstep Commercial Products, Paxton, Ill., signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Cornelia Broom Co., Cornelia, Ga.

The JohnsonDiversey distribution center, Sturtevant, Wis., was accredited Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certification at the gold level. The building is the largest LEED-certified distribution center in the U.S.

HOST/Racine Industries, Racine, Wis., presented Waldco Sales of New York, the agency that had the highest percentage sales increase from 2006 to 2007 with the Top Agency Performance Award at its agent reception.

Stefco Industries, Haines City, Fla., has become a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

ABCO Cleaning Products, Miami was named a Top 100 Supplier to SYSCO Corporation for 2007 from a group of approximately 2,000 manufacturers. ABCO was also awarded the Silver Heritage Award for their continued support of Diversity Supplier Programs within SYSCO.

Henson Sales Group Ltd., Wayne, Penn., received the Janitized ‚ Manufacturers Representative of The Year Award at the ISSA Show in Orlando for its sales efforts, achievements and professionalism in 2007.

Wausau Paper, Harrodsburg, Ky., was presented the Supply Chain Leader award at the 2007 Interline Partner Conference in Orlando.
The award was based on excellence in sales support, supply chain leader, participating in IBI support programs, outstanding customer service, category growth and innovative product and ideas support.

Coverall Cleaning Concepts, Boca Raton, Fla., plans to begin franchising in Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, N.M., Boise, Idaho and Reno, Nev. Mark Melton, president of Coverall Mountain and Pacific, Santa Barbara County, will own and manage all four support centers.

WAXIE Sanitary Supply, San Diego, announced the receipt of a contract award from the State of Oregon for Janitorial Supplies and Related Services. Acting as the Lead Agency for the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA), the State of Oregon chose WAXIE as their vendor for Janitorial Supplies and Industrial Paper, crediting the company’s web@work online ordering and account management tool and it’s extensive catalog of environmentally preferable products as the main reasons for making this selection.



PLAYERS
Banner Chemical Corp., Orange, N.J. announced that David Herman, vice-president of sales and marketing, has become an equity partner in the company.

The RTF Group Inc., Lake Bluff, Ill., has named Barry Humiston regional sales manager. He will be working with selected distributors throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Humiston has more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience specifically within the sanitary and maintenance supply industry.

The von Drehle Corp., Hickory, N.C., named David Holland director of sales. Holland has been in the industry for 18 years, serving as a sales representative, market development manager, national accounts manager, and district manager. Holland will be working with von Drehle’s industrial sales force.
The company also named Joe Pankratz site manager of its Cordova, N.C. paper manufacturing facility.

Aztec Products Inc., Montgomeryville, Pa., promoted Steven Spengler to national sales manager of its industrial floor cleaning equipment. Spengler was previously a regional sales manager for Aztec.

Wausau Paper Towel & Tissue LLC, Harrodsburg, Ky., announced the promotion of Eric S. Leines and Mark H. Stanland to the positions of vice presidents within the towel and tissues sales and marketing organization.
Leines was director of sales for the southern zone and national accounts. Stanland was director of marketing.

Network Services Co., Mt. Prospect, Ill., named Mike Johnson CFO and John Holland vice president of customer development.
Johnson previously served as vice president of finance and operations. Holland was with Network for more than three years as director of account implementation.

Athea Laboratories, Milwaukee, named David Devin of Devin Sales & Marketing, Chapel Hill, N.C. and Todd Busch with the Northland Rep Group (NRG), Minneapolis, as Manufacturers Rep Groups of the Year 2007.

Spartan Chemical Co., Inc., Maumee, Ohio, has appointed John Willis Swigart to the Board of Directors.
Regional Manager, Bob Bruer who serves Minnesota, Louisville Ky., division manager Dax Brown and southeast division manager Skip Seal successfully completed LEED Profession Accreditation. Seal will also take over as the divisional sales manager of the Southeast/North division for Denny Douglas who is retiring from Spartan after 33 years of service.
The company promoted five other regional and divisional managers:
Janet Molitor was promoted to regional manager for central Pennsylvania and Neal Duffy was appointed to regional manager for Buffalo, N.Y.
Kurt Amig was promoted to divisional sales manager in the northeast division.
Sandy Riggs was named regional manager for the Omaha, Neb., region and David Jones is regional manager for the Indianapolis region.

Mukesh Desai was named operations manager of Hill & Markes WholeSale Distributors, Amsterdam, N.Y.
Desai has more than 25 years of expereince in the paper distribution industry.

Owen Foster
has been named Senior Vice President of the new Marketing Resources Department at Rochester Midland Corp., Rochester, N.Y. Foster has been with RMC for seven years and has over 25 years of sales and marketing experience.

WAXIE Sanitary Supply, San Diego, named John Horon director of product management. Horon has been with WAXIE for 25 years as an installer, inventory analyst, buyer, purchasing manager, corporate buyer and product manager for disposables. President Charles Wax was honored by Junior Achievement of San Diego and Imperial Counties at the San Diego Business Hall of Fame awards.

Brian Alexson was named VP of sales for Unger Enterprises Inc., Bridgeport, Conn.
Alexson will oversee the inside sales department and the channel sales department.

Triple S promoted Ann DiPalma to RDC Member Service Manager. Since 2000, she has carried the title of RDC Coordinator, supporting the National Logistics Platform.
In her new position, DiPalma will be responsible for leading the RDC Member Service Team to achieve service, sales and operational goals.
